A Note from Dr. Ford

In the Beginning, there was a dog named Bart & His Family

I had the bittersweet pleasure of my first meeting with Bart and his owners Barbara and Barry Rosenbaum one Saturday morning in the fall of 1993. Poor Bart was suffering from inflammatory bowel disease. His disease was not responding to conventional therapy and was quite a challenge to keep in remission. Several years later, Bart additionally developed a severe life-threatening lung disease. Miraculously, Bart recovered from this usually fatal disease!

The Rosenbaums wanted to honor our efforts to save Bart’s life. Although I insisted that his miraculous recovery was gift enough, they made an extremely generous donation in honor of Bart’s amazing recovery. This donation was the impetus for the establishment of The S. Ford Foundation for Animals.

Early in my veterinary career I had hoped to someday be able to give back to the animals what they had given me. I had been specifically saving funds for approximately two years to enable me to incorporate and legally form a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation.

With the Rosenbaums’ donation, I was finally able to realize that dream. Bart, Barbara, and Barry, on behalf myself and for all of the animals the Foundation has, and will save, thank you for your generosity!
