From Where & Who Does The Foundation
Accept Rescues?
Many of our area shelters lack the resources and funds to repair animals with treatable, curable, and often minor medical conditions. When this happens, these animals are often deemed unadoptable and face euthanization. The S. Ford Foundation focuses our efforts on being the last resort for these savable and deserving creatures. We accept our rescued pets from San Diego area Shelters and Animal Control via designated contacts with those organizations. In addition, our veterinarian volunteers visit shelters in specific search for loving, adoptable animals that need medical treatment to spare them from euthanization. All animals must be admitted through a San Diego County Animal Shelter. No owner relinquished or “found” or stray animals will be accepted. Preferential consideration will be given to animals whose exit has been requested by a San Diego County Animal Shelter.
What is the difference between the VCA Emergency Hospital and the Foundation?
The Hospital is a separate corporation dedicated to the treatment of companion animals within the community. The Foundation, on the other hand,was developed by Dr. Sara Ford, a local veterinarian. It is designed to promote community awareness of local animals in need and to provide services and care to these animals. These animals would be euthanized without this type of treatment.Together the Hospital, with its dedicated staff and state of the art equipment, and you, via your donations to the Foundation, we can save the savable.
Are my donations 100% tax deductible?
The foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization, contributions to which are tax deductible to the full amount allowed by law.

Can I make a donation as a gift for, or in memory of a loved one? Yes. Many contributors recognize friends and loved ones (animal or human) on special days or holidays with a donation in their name. You may want to recognize the life of a special friend or loved one through a donation in their name.

To provide emergency veterinary care to shelter dogs and cats in San Diego County who have exhausted all other opportunities for lifesaving treatment, and then place them in permanent homes.
