Dear Friends & Fellow Animal Lovers:

Many of us have rescued a dog or cat, or adopted our new pet from a shelter or rescue organization such as the S. Ford Foundation, which we strongly encourage. Especially, if you adopted your new friend from a shelter you know how good it feels to save an animals life. You have learned that purchasing a purebred dog or cat from a breeder or pet store is difficult to justify when in excess of
12,000 dogs and 9000 cats have been euthanized county wide in 2007 already. The San Diego county shelters euthanize well below the national average (60% of dogs and 70% of cats) and to their credit do not euthanize healthy adoptable animals, but what about the animals that are behaviorally sound with a treatable or manageable medical condition? Euthanasia of adoptable dogs and cats with treatable conditions occurs as a result of limitations of space and veterinary resources.

You can make a difference in the lives of San Diego County animals with treatable medical and surgical conditions. The S.Ford Foundation for animals literally saves the lives of each and every animal we are asked to treat. We are the rescue organization of last resort. The animals we save, through no fault of their own, are scheduled for euthanasia when we are asked to save them. The dogs and cats we save have not been accepted as candidates by any of the other local rescue organizations. We are truly the dog or cat’s last and only hope. If we do not accept them euthanasia is certain. Why at times are we forced to say no? It’s simple lack of funding. So, you can save an animals life with your donation.

This time of year, certainly a large population of our counties dogs and cats find themselves in a homeless situation. Sadly, many of them are ill and injured as well. Abandoned by their owners when they evacuated for the fire or left on the side of the road to die with their nursing puppies or kittens are unbelievably common. All it takes is someone like you who will act on my invitation to join us and save as many of these dogs and cats as possible. Since 2001, the S.Ford Foundation supporters have given hundreds of animals a second chance at life by providing them with free medical and surgical care.

So, please give a gift that really makes a difference. I hope you can send a donation of $25 to cover the cost of screening blood work, a donation of $50 will cover the cost of neutering and vaccines, a donation of $100.00 pays for anesthesia to repair a broken bone, a donation of $250.00 pays for the cost of blood work, neutering, vaccines and anesthesia for one animal, and a most generous donation of $500 pays for the repair of a single broken bone. $1000.00 pays for the surgical repair of 2 broken bones or a heart defect. Please save a dog or cat’s life today with your generous tax-deductible donation. We are an all-volunteer organization. Your entire donation goes directly and immediately to save an animals life.
